Byd Shenzhen, the world’s largest cargo ship for car transportation, ran into Brazil carrying more than 7,000 vehicles by Chinese automaker byd. The vessel, which departed from the Taicang port area, in the port of Suzhou, should arrive at the port of ItajaĆ, Santa Catarina, crossing the Indian and Atlantic oceans via narrow Malaca.
With 219 meters in length and capacity for 9,200 vehicles, the ship is moved to liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fulfills the latest environmental standards of the international maritime organization. According to BYD, loading – completed in about two days – is the largest ever done in a single operation for exporting Chinese vehicles.
Byd Shenzhen is the fourth Roll-On/Roll-off) ship from the company’s fleet, which has been investing heavily in its own logistics to expand its exports. Since the beginning of the year, 75 ships have departed from Taicang terminal taking automobiles to 14 countries.
“Byd Shenzhen is not just a ship, but a bridge that connects Chinese innovation to the global market,” said Wang Junbao, public affairs manager of the company.
By 2024, BYD sold 417.2 thousand vehicles abroad – 76.7 thousand of them in Brazil, where it registered annual growth of 328%. The company had already sent, in February, more than 5,000 cars to the port of Portocel, in EspĆrito Santo.
Experts point out that the expansion of its own fleet marks a new phase for the Chinese automotive industry, strengthening the country’s position in the global trade of electric vehicles.
