
The comic band “Uzumaki“By the author Junji Ito, considered a Japanese Terror BD classic, about a spiral curse that fell into a city, is edited this month in Portugal.
The story of “UzumakiIt is narrated by Kirie Goshima, a young woman who lives in the coastal city of Kurouzu, hit by a strange and hypnotic supernatural curse that leads the inhabitants to a crazy and deadly obsession linked to spirals.
The book, which is published in Portugal by Devir, has more than 600 pages in black and whitewith a realistic and profusely detailed trait in the grotesque and oppressive description of that transformation into spirals.
“Uzumaki”It was originally published in Japan between 1998 and 1999 by Junji Ito (63), described by critics as a master of the horror manga and who are already published in the Portuguese market“Tale collectionAnd the series “Volume“.
“Junji Ito’s universe is very cruel and its characters are often victims of circumstances and punished disproportionately for minor infractions, an unknown and incomprehensible natural order,” says the biographical note about the author in the book.
The Portuguese edition also includes a comment by former Diplomat and Japanese writer Masaru Sato that considers “Uzumaki” one masterpiece on human condition and capitalismand that advises the reading of this comic band to those who want to understand “The Capital”, by Karl Marx.
“If we replace the term“ spiral ”with“ capitalism ”, we will see the essence of what we face today,” says Masaru Sato, for whom the author Jungi “crystallized” in the comic band a period of the history of Japan, when “The Japanese economy bubble burst in February 1991“.
This story of dystopian terror, named for US Eisner’s American awards, has had several adaptations for video games, cinema and an animated television miniseries.
