The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) and the Uzbekistan Fats and Oils Association/Assotsiasiya “Uzyog’moysanoat” signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish cooperation in the field of exchange of experience in production and processing of vegetable oil at the Tashkent International Hotel in Uzbekistan on September 14.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Eddy Martono, President of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), and Mr. Oybek Zuparov, of the Uzbekistan Fats and Oils Association / Assotsiya “Uzyog’moysanoat”, in the presence by HE Sunaryo Kartadinata, Indonesian Ambassador in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of palm oil, with an annual production of about 50 million tons, of which about 20 million are consumed domestically and 30 million are exported. Palm oil is intended for various uses, such as food (cooking oil, margarine, etc.), oleochemicals (soaps, hand sanitizers, shampoos, etc.) and biodiesel.

Indian palm oil push faces reality

In addition to being the largest foreign exchange contributor, the palm oil industry in Indonesia employs more than 16 million people. Currently, Indonesia exports palm products to more than 150 countries, including Central Asia, where they are used in various industries and products.

Indonesia has instituted a sustainability standard for oil palm cultivation known as ISPO, which is a requirement for oil palm plantation companies.

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of palm oil, with an annual production of about 50 million tons, of which about 20 million are consumed domestically and 30 million are exported.

As one of the major producers and users of vegetable oils in Central Asia, Uzbekistan has the potential to become a regional center of vegetable oil production and management. It is expected that through the MoU, Uzbekistan will be able to increase its domestic production using Indonesian knowledge, technology and best practices in the field of palm oil processing.

In addition to the above points, this MoU is expected to increase the bilateral trade volume of both countries.
