Giant panda twins, born to Ying Ying, a giant panda gifted to Hong Kong by the central government, celebrated their 100th day on Saturday.
Hong Kong Ocean Park held a celebration event to mark the occasion. Many visitors, dressed in giant panda-themed costumes, waited outside the park in the morning. They were given brown eggs and ginger pork stew. According to Hong Kong customs, when a family has a newborn child, they distribute the food to share the joy.
Throughout the park, there were several cartoon images of the panda twins and welcome banners. The panda twins’ father, Le Le, made a public appearance again at the park. “I’m very happy that Hong Kong has a new pair of panda cubs,” said Lo, 75, who brought a panda doll to take photos.
For the first time, the park launched a live streaming session to show real-time footage of the panda twins. The female panda cub was the first to appear, lying on the bed and stretching occasionally.
Later, the caretakers placed the male panda cub on the bed to interact with the female. The two pandas continued to move their bodies and snuggle with each other, eliciting cheers from the crowd.
According to Parque Oceânico, the panda twins grew teeth, with the female cub, which initially weighed 122 grams at birth, now weighing 5.3 kg, and the male cub’s weight increasing from 112 grams at birth to 5.5 kg.
