As night fell, the ancient Qilou Street in Haikou, capital of south China’s Hainan Province, became busier. A fashion show with intangible cultural heritage was presented with music and lights, bringing a cultural feast to tourists.
The bustling scene of Haikou’s ancient Qilou Street is a microcosm of Hainan’s tourism sector during the holiday. Last month, Super Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Hainan, causing serious damage to the tourism sector. With self-rescue efforts and support from all parties, the province’s entire tourism sector has resumed before the National Day holiday.
“It’s impressive! The costumes of ethnic minorities are so beautiful!” said Chen Nan, a tourist from Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province. After finishing a trip to Sanya, a resort town in Hainan, Chen and her boyfriend arrived in Haikou, not expecting to find such a wonderful performance.
“Qilou Ancient Street has a retro charm and vibrant atmosphere,” she said, adding that the show made their trip more worthwhile. During the week-long National Day holiday, Qilou Ancient Street was full of tourists visiting different shops or sampling various local snacks, and the attractive street performances added a festive atmosphere.
