Full text of President Xi Jinping’s 2025 New Year message

This New Year’s Eve, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered his 2025 New Year’s message broadcast by the China Media Group (CMG) and online. The full text of the message follows:

Comrades, friends, ladies and gentlemen,

Greetings everyone! Time flies by and the new year is approaching. I would like to send my best wishes to everyone here in Beijing.

In 2024, we spend four seasons together, we experience wind and rain storms, but we also enjoy rainbows. Every moment in this extraordinary year was captured in an emotional and unforgettable way.

We actively deal with the impacts caused by changes in the internal and external environments through a set of policies, promoting high-quality development with firm steps. The country’s economy is growing again and is showing an optimistic trend, with GDP forecast to exceed 130 trillion yuan this year. Grain production exceeded 700 billion kilograms, providing more supplies for Chinese people’s bowls. Regional development has achieved coordinated progress, consolidating the achievements we have already achieved. The new urbanization and rural reinvigoration achieved integrated development with perfect synergy. Green and low-carbon development has been expanded to deeper levels, thus revealing a picture of a beautiful China.

We foster new quality productive forces according to local conditions, a measure that promoted the successive rise of new industries and new forms of business. For the first time, the annual production of new energy vehicles reached 10 million units, and new results were achieved in the integrated circuit, artificial intelligence and quantum communication sectors. The Chang’e-6 mission collected samples from the far side of the Moon for the first time, the Meng Xiang ship explored the depths of the ocean, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan sea passage removed sea barriers, and the Qinling research station was erected in the field of ice in Antarctica, showing the great courage and aspiration of the Chinese to pursue their dreams.

This year, I made inspection visits to various places and witnessed everyone’s colorful lives. How big and red are the Huaniu apples of Tianshui, how full are the fishing boats in Aojiao Village on Dongshan Island. The “oriental smile” in Maijishan Grottoes has spanned a thousand years, and the ethical heritage of families in Liuchi Alley has been preserved from generation to generation. Visitors bustled around Tianjin’s Ancient Cultural Street, and residents came together as one big family in the mixed-ethnic residential community of Yinchuan. I am always concerned about issues of common interest to everyone, such as employment and increasing income, issues involving the care of the elderly and children, education and health. During this year, the basic pension was raised, the mortgage interest rate was reduced, the scope of direct settlement of medical expenses generated outside the region of domicile was expanded, facilitating medical consultations of non-residents, and favorable policies benefited the exchange of old consumer goods for new ones, improving the population’s quality of life. We had a greater feeling of accomplishment.

At the Paris Olympics, Chinese athletes did their best and achieved greatest success abroad, showing the high spirit, confidence and optimism of China’s new generation. The Navy and Air Force celebrated their 75th anniversary, and our soldiers built a new image. Facing natural disasters such as floods and typhoons, Party activists and cadres were on the front line, and all people gathered their strength and helped each other. Countless workers, builders and entrepreneurs are working with great effort to make their dreams come true. I awarded national honorary medals and titles to personalities. The glory does not only belong to them, but also to every brave fighter responsible for their goals.

In this world with intertwined changes and turbulence, China, a responsible great country, has promoted global governance reform and deepened the solidarity and cooperation of the Global South. We work to make the joint development of the Belt and Road Initiative deeper and more solid. We successfully hosted the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. At bilateral and multilateral events such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and G20, we put forward Chinese proposals and inject more positive energy to uphold world peace and stability.

We solemnly celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, on which occasion we take a look back at its vicissitudes and progress. We inherited the civilization of more than five thousand years and the word “China” is carved at the bottom of the traditional He Zun ritual cup and in the hearts of all Chinese people. The successful 3rd plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee sounded the clarion call for further comprehensive deepening of reform. We are making great strides in this current trend of reform and opening up, and in this process, Chinese modernization will create a more promising outlook.

In 2025, we will complete the 14th Five-Year Economic and Social Development Plan. We will implement more proactive and effective policies, dedicate ourselves to high-quality development, promote self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology, and maintain the conducive trend of economic and social development. We face new circumstances in economic functioning, including challenges arising from the uncertainty of the external environment and the pressures caused by the transformation of old growth engines into new ones, which will be overcome with efforts. As we always grow in the storm of wind and rain and become stronger in responding to trials, we must all have full confidence.

The happiness of the people is the highest priority among all work. It is the common aspiration of all families that children have access to high-quality education, the elderly enjoy good services for them and young people embrace more development opportunities. These simple desires are exactly the aspiration for a better life. Let us work together to raise the level of social development and governance, continue to create a harmonious and inclusive environment, and resolve all the concerns of the people, so that everyone has more smiles and satisfaction.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland, I visited the region again and witnessed the new developments and satisfactory changes. We will firmly and unswervingly implement the “one country, two systems” principle and maintain long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macau. People on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the same family. No one can sever our blood and family ties, no one can stop the majestic historical trend of the reunification of the country!

Profound changes in the world situation never seen in a century are evolving at an accelerated rate. We need an open and inclusive mindset to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts and take care of the future of Humanity. China is willing, together with other countries, to work as a practitioner of friendly cooperation, a driver of mutual learning of civilizations and a participant in building a community with a shared future, so as to create a bright future for the world.

The dream seems far away, but it can be achieved with our commitment. Aspiration is difficult, but it can be achieved through hard work. In the new journey of Chinese modernization, we are all protagonists, whose dedications are as valuable as shining lights.

At this time, the mountains and rivers become more beautiful and the starlight illuminates every house. Let’s welcome this new year full of hope. May the homeland enjoy peace and prosperity! May everyone have joy, tranquility and dreams come true!
