An exhibition on a collection of traditional Chinese costumes will be open to the public from May 14 to September 5 in Brussels. The exhibition, launched at the China Cultural Center, will showcase more than 30 Qipao styles from the collection of the Shanghai City History Museum.
The Qipao, also known as cheongsam, is a tight-fitting silk or satin dress, usually with a slit on the sides and a mandarin collar. “By displaying different types of Qipao as well as photos and other exhibits, the event showcases the latest achievements in the protection, inheritance and innovative development of China’s intangible cultural heritage,” said Wu Gang, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of China in Belgium, at the opening ceremony.
Zhou Qunhua, director of the Shanghai History Museum, hopes the exhibition will strengthen friendship and cooperation between China and Belgium. More than 100 guests, including Belgian residents and visitors from other countries, participated in the opening ceremony.
