In Pictures: Generation T Events Across Asia
Generation T And Invest HK Networking Lunch
Location Hong Kong
Generation T partnered with Invest HK for a networking event that matched Hong Kong-based Generation T listers with representatives from businesses across Asia. Invest HK is the branch of the Hong Kong government responsible for attracting foreign investment and supporting multinationals that wish to expand operations into the city. The purpose of the collaborative event was to connect Generation T listers with CEOs of businesses in the creative industries, with a view to creating value and establishing partnerships.
Panel Discussion At Conscious Festival
Location Hong Kong
Generation T hosted a panel discussion at Hong Kong’s inaugural Conscious Festival, a three-day event focused on sustainability. The panel was titled “Generation T: Dare to Think Different” and featured Gen.T listers Peggy Chan, Arthur Lam and Tony Verb. They talked about how they strive to make a positive impact in their respective industries—F&B, energy and investment. The discussion delved into how young entrepreneurs can, and should, weave purpose into the very fabric of their startup from day one, with panellists talking about their entrepreneurial journeys and mission to effect change through their businesses.
Small Is Sustainable Panel Discussion With Jessica Alba
Location Hong Kong
The Landmark shopping mall worked in collaboration with Generation T to host a panel discussion on sustainability and ethical business, featuring Jessica Alba. In addition to a career in Hollywood, Jessica Alba is co-founder of nontoxic household products startup The Honest Company. The company’s valuation at just under US$1 billion makes her one of America’s most successful female entrepreneurs. Generation T created the programme for the event and included Generation T lister Luke Grana—founder of ethical apparel startup Grana—on the panel, which also included Sharie Ross-Tse and Richard Ekkebus. Gen.T also invited 30 listers to attend the event, which was hosted by Hong Kong Tatler’s chief content officer and managing director, Sean Fitzpatrick.
Generation T hosted a forum on sustainability in Beijing, led by Gen.T lister Shi Yan, founder of China Ecological Agricultural Alliance. The event featured a plant-based lunch prepared by Shanghai vegetarian chef Daphne Chan. Organic ingredients for the meal were provided by Shi Yan’s Shared Harvest farm. The 25 Generation T listers in attendance also participated in an awareness-raising environmental video campaign.
ART021 and Design Shanghai
In China, Generation T organised private previews of two art and design events in the last year. Contemporary art fair ART021 (pictured), founded by 2017 Gen.T lister Zhou Da Wei, aims to combine local artists and a global perspective. More recently, over 20 Gen.T listers were invited to the VIP section of the launch of Design Shanghai.
Luxglove Watch Event
Generation T is a platform to develop your passions as well as your professional interests. Case in point: Shangliu Tatler's watch-themed afternoon tea event in Shanghai with online luxury watch marketplace Luxglove. Watch master Ding Zhixiang gave a presentation at the event, and several Generation T listers shared their watch collections to spark discussion among fellow horologists.
Young Collectors Summer Party
Art patrons, collectors, and enthusiasts from the Generation T community came together for the inaugural Young Collectors Summer Party at the National Gallery Singapore, presented by The Artling. Guests were treated to a private viewing of artist Yayoi Kusama’s landmark exhibition Life is the Heart of a Rainbow, with gallery docents introducing the works.
Tatler Table With Generation T
Tatler Table is a Singapore Tatler event where the food, guest list and programing are curated to fit the evening’s theme. The most recent edition was organised with Generation T in partnership with Essec Business School, an international higher education institution. Around 20 Generation T listers attended to hear Jan Ondrus—a recognised thought leader and associate professor of information systems, decision sciences and statistics at Essec—give an insightful presentation on sustainable business models that make companies future-proof.
Generation T Talks Series
In the Philippines, Gen.T presented the first instalment of its speaker series, Generation T Talks. Listers Abba Napa and Bjorn Pardo were the evening’s speakers, leading an evening of enrichment and connections for the 50 guests. Pardo, founder of e-commerce platform Xend, discussed disruptive business models and gave local examples, while restaurateur Napa talked about how she established several F&B brands.
Generation T And Epic Homes
At the Generation T List 2017 launch event in Malaysia, Gen.T raised RM100,000 for its CSR partner Epic Homes, which builds houses for indigenous communities. The money raised was enough to build two houses through the charity, which was founded by Generation T lister John-Son Oei. Later in the year, Generation T listers and the wider Gen.T community gathered in rural Malaysia to build the first structure—the 106th home Epic has helped build. A second house-build is scheduled for later this year.
Generation T Salon Series
In Taipei, Generation T launched a salon series. The first event saw Generation T lister Ting-An Wu (pictured) give a keynote speech on sustainability and upcycling. His business, Spring Pool Glass Industrial Corporation, recycles over 100,000 tonnes of glass a year and transforms them into energy-efficient bricks for use in construction. At the second salon, Gen.T lister Idan Chiang, founder and design director of L'atelier Fantasia, gave a keynote on current design trends.
