The week-long event for entrepreneurs across Asia is back on July 6-10—and this year it's going virtual. Here's what you need to know

Originally scheduled for February and postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, StartmeupHK, Hong Kong's biggest annual event focused on entrepreneurship, is taking place virtually from July 6-10. 

Organisers expect 17,000 delegates, more than 300 speakers and over 400 exhibitors hailing from 54 countries and territories. 

Coordinated by Invest HK, a branch of the Hong Kong government responsible for attracting foreign investment and supporting multinationals that wish to expand operations into the city, the StartmeupHK week is made up of six core events, each organised by a different group and with a different industry focus. Here's a brief overview of each event. 

Connected Cities Conference

Date Tuesday, July 7

Focus Smart cities

The Connected Cities Conference will showcase "innovations for the next generation of city living", hosting speakers from academia and business to discuss the technologies that can be harnessed to "enhance a city’s liveability, workability and sustainability". 

Standout Session Braving the Epidemic—Innovation in the New Normal. Hosted by government-backed startup incubator Cyberport, this talk features Gen.T honouree and Negawatt founder Arthur Lam. 4.15pm.

Connected Retail Experiences

The Lifestyle tech Conference will focus on "insights, trends and experiences from the most promising startups, investors, corporates and change-makers disrupting our world today". The event also includes an investor matching session. 

Standout Session Ben Wong of Eureka Nova, an innovation platform under the New World Group, and Lukas Petrikas, Head of Innovation Lab at HKEX, will talk to Gen.T editor Lee Williamson on the future of corporate innovation.

Ecosystem Summit

Focus Building a startup ecosystem 

Hosted by The Mills Fabrica—the innovation arm of retail space The Mills, founded by Gen.T honouree Vanessa Cheung—the Ecosystem Summit focuses on ways to "foster and grow the startup ecosystem in Hong Kong and globally". The half-day event will cover how to develop entrepreneurial talent through incubation and education and how to transform corporates though innovation.

HKFIA 2020 Forum
