Matrixport: Ethereum Faces an Uphill Battle for Price Growth Amid Low Ecosystem Activity and Strong Competition

This, combined with ongoing low transaction volumes, poses significant challenges for Ethereum (ETH) to achieve significant price growth in 2025.

The decline in Ethereum’s gas fees, a metric often associated with on-chain activity, highlights a decrease in network usage.

Matrixport noted that stagnant ecosystem activity reflects a slowdown in user participation and raises concerns about Ethereum’s ability to maintain its dominance in the blockchain industry.

Matrixport also noted the increasing competition Ethereum faces from alternative blockchain platforms such as Solana and Sui. These emerging protocols gained traction throughout 2024 by offering faster and more cost-effective solutions and successfully attracted a broader user base.

“The superior performance of Solana and Sui tokens compared to Ethereum throughout the year underscores changing market dynamics,” Matrixport said.

Without significant catalysts or major upgrades, Ethereum is expected to remain under pressure next year. Matrixport warned that rival projects will continue to expand their market share, further challenging Ethereum’s dominance.

However, analysts believe that Ethereum’s robust developer ecosystem and established position could play a critical role in the platform’s long-term recovery if it effectively addresses scalability and user engagement issues.
