The Alliance for Innovation and Technological Sharing in the Electricity Sector (EISA), organized by the State Grid Corporate of China, was established in Rio de Janeiro on November 17, with the aim of promoting the exchange of information and technologies that improve the Chinese and Brazilian electricity sector.

“Brazil and China are examples for the production of clean and renewable energy in the world,” said Alexandre Silveira, Minister of Mines and Energy of Brazil, in a speech via videoconference. He emphasized that the change in the global energy matrix, decarbonization and climate issues represent a new economy and an immense opportunity to generate jobs and income. He also highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in a globalized world and that cooperation between the two sides was an important investment in economic growth, energy transition and security.

Jin Wei, deputy general manager of State Grid Corporation of China, said that State Grid will strongly support the work of EISA, strengthening technical cooperation, dialogue, exchanges, learning and mutual understanding in the field of electricity between the China and Brazil through a variety of channels. State Grid will also jointly respond to the challenges posed by the global energy transition to meet the sustainable economic and social development of China and Brazil.

In April this year, State Grid Brasil, of Chinese origin, and the Brazilian government signed in Brasília the largest electricity transmission contract in the history of the Brazilian electricity sector. The project includes the construction of 1,500 km of direct current transmission lines and the maintenance of another 1,400 km. The interconnection works will be responsible for transporting surplus electricity produced by renewable sources in northeastern Brazil, which is experiencing a boom in new wind and solar energy projects, to the rest of the country.

According to State Grid Brasil, EISA is committed to building a platform for sharing information, technological innovation and exchanging experiences, increasing the consensus of cooperation in the area of technical standards and jointly promoting the transformation and application of innovation in electrical energy and research results, in addition to promoting the development of electrical energy in China and Brazil. The initiative will also promote the high-quality development of the electricity sector between China and Brazil, and expand pragmatic cooperation and win-win results in the field of energy between the two sides.
