A delegation of scientific innovation from Macao and the continental part of China recently visited São Paulo in search of partnerships in the areas of phytomedance, public health, oceanic science, artificial intelligence and other strategic technologies. The mission was organized by the Fund for the Development of Sciences and Technology (FDCT) and the Directorate of Economics and Technological Development Services (DSEDT) of the Special Administrative Region of Macao (MGI).
Macao and Sao Paulo have been sister cities since 2000 and have deepened their cooperation in the last 25 years. One of the highlights is the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest hosted annually in Macau, which has already attracted 98 Brazilian companies-five of them opened branches in the region after meeting the large area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Bay.
During the visit, universities and companies from both countries discussed the creation of a joint laboratory in low altitude economics technology, especially USP and Embraer. In addition, FDCT has signed an agreement with FAPESP to finance research on biomedicine, IA, marine technology and space science.
Cooperation also extends to traditional Chinese medicine (MTC), increasingly popular in Brazil. Acupuncture is already offered by SUS, and São Paulo medical centers have signed partnerships with Macao institutions. In 2024, an agreement was signed for the creation of the MTC International Cooperation Center with Unifesp, strengthening cultural and technological exchange.
