The company in charge of developing the Chancay Megaport, Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay PerĂº, has announced that in July 2025 the award of its third component will be carried out, one of the most ambitious port infrastructures in the region. This component includes the construction of a 1,820-meter-long road tunnel, which will cross the southern area of the Chancay district, positioning itself as the longest tunnel in Peru. This underground structure will be a key connection between the port’s operational area and the multipurpose terminal access complex, facilitating the movement of goods.

The tunnel, designed as a segregated and exclusive corridor for cargo transportation, is projected as an advanced engineering work in Peru. It will have three vehicle lanes, two cargo conveyor belts and multi-product pipelines, which will guarantee an efficient and safe flow for heavy transportation between the port and national routes. This infrastructure is part of the eight-axis road access system and an urban interchange at kilometer 80 of the Panamericana Norte, optimally connecting the port with the main transportation routes.

Cosco Shipping Lines will move its operations to the Chancay Megaport, strengthening maritime logistics in Peru

The estimated investment in this stage of the project amounts to 121 million dollars, highlighting the magnitude of the work and its strategic importance for the national economy. By having exclusive access for cargo transportation, the aim is to minimize the impact on urban traffic, contributing to a sustainable and efficient port operation in the Pacific logistics corridor.

The Chancay Megaport, whose inauguration is scheduled for November 14, 2024, coincides with the APEC summit in Peru, an event that will place the country in the international spotlight. According to the Minister of Transportation, RaĂºl PĂ©rez Reyes, the projection of the Chancay Megaport as a high-capacity logistics center on the Pacific coast will strengthen Peru’s competitiveness in global trade and facilitate integration with Asian markets.
