Since 2007, Chinese experts have driven agricultural production in Madagascar, with significant results. By 2022, the technology applied at 75,000 hectares doubled the income of thousands of farmers and strengthened the country’s food self -sufficiency.
This effort is part of a broader approach: in the last ten years, China has implemented 24 agricultural demonstration centers in Africa, introducing more than 300 technologies that have increased productivity between 30% and 60%. Hybrid rice, for example, exceeded conventional African varieties, while adapting Chinese techniques to local conditions brought efficiency and sustainability gains to countries such as Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria.
Innovations such as “Juncao” technology, used in Mauritania, have helped turn arid landscapes into productive areas. The grass cultivated for mushrooms also serves as forage, stabilizes dunes and strengthens livestock. Other solutions, such as solar insecticides and precision agricultural machines, complete the set of tools that promote more resilient agriculture in the face of climate change.
Cooperation goes beyond technology: it involves investments over $ 1 billion and partnerships with 23 African countries. Chinese companies operate throughout the production chain, from trade cultivation, while local producers benefit from direct access to the Chinese market – such as Rwanda coffee farmers and Kenya’s avocado exporters. As a Nigerian farmer declared, Chinese technology “lit our way to self -sufficiency.”
