
China has been gaining global recognition for its advances in digital technology, according to the Perception of Global Public Digital Technology Perception of 2025released this Wednesday by Renmin University of China. According to the survey, 86% of the 7.6 thousand interviewees in 38 countries praised the country’s technological development.
Approval was especially high in global southern regions, such as Africa (94%), South America (93%) and Southeast Asian (91%). Data indicate that sectors such as Artificial Intelligence and Electronic Commerce are seen as the main engines of China’s digital leadership, with platforms such as Temu, Shein, Alipay and Wechat Pay being mentioned as examples of accessible and efficient innovation.
The report also shows that Chinese digital technology is seen as a positive force for 83.6% of respondents in these regions, reinforcing the country’s image as a strategic partner in infrastructure, training and digital modernization.
Despite the enthusiasm for the impact of AI on areas such as work efficiency (63%) and learning (65%), there is fears about its effect on the labor market, with only 35%believing that technology will generate more jobs.
The survey also reveals a difference in perception between developed and developing countries: 74% of developing nations participants closely follow technological trends, against 50% in the richest countries.
