In a gesture of solidarity and unity, the Chinese community in São Paulo, represented by several associations and the Consulate General of China, held a fundraising event at the Azarias Association headquarters, in the Perus neighborhood, in São Paulo.
The consul general of China in São Paulo, Yu Peng, highlighted in his speech that China, as a member of the “Global South”, has always been alongside Brazil in supporting social development and the fight against poverty. He also emphasized that charity and helping those in need are deeply rooted values in Chinese culture.
The collection was the result of a campaign organized by Chinese associations, with the support of companies, institutions and the community in general. Donations exceeded R$300,000 and resulted in the delivery of 5,000 baskets made up of non-perishable food, personal hygiene products and cleaning items.
The vice-president of Associação Azarias, Weslei Pereira Roberto, expressed his emotional thanks: “It’s something very good for us, for our community. We are extremely happy and grateful for the partnership with the Chinese community, because our population, especially here in the neighborhood, is very needy and needs food and assistance. This partnership strengthens our bonds. We are honored by the consul’s visit, and for us it is a privilege.”
