A modified AG50, China’s new-generation light sport aircraft, made its first successful flight on Monday, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) said.
Compared with the original AG50, the modified aircraft has a larger wing fuel tank volume and its maximum flight distance has been extended from 650 to 1,200 kilometers, said Liu Chong, the chief designer.
The modified AG50 plane conducted the flight at an airport in Jingmen, central China’s Hubei Province. The flight was stable and all the aircraft’s systems performed well, said AVIC, the country’s main aircraft manufacturer.
This marked the completion of the AG50 modification, as well as the entry of the modified aircraft into its airworthiness validation flight test phase, AVIC noted.
The original two-seat AG50 light sport aircraft, developed by AVIC’s Special Vehicle Research Institute, completed its first flight in August 2020. It is designed for flying clubs, general aviation companies, training schools and private pilots.
The project for the modified AG50 aircraft began in February 2023 following market feedback and customer demand, AVIC said.
