China’s HH-100 commercial unmanned air transport system completed its first successful flight on Wednesday, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) announced.

The test was carried out in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, northwest China, said AVIC, the country’s main aircraft manufacturer. The HH-100 has multiple advantages, such as low cost and high payload. It has a maximum designed takeoff weight of 2,000 kg, a payload capacity of 700 kg and a range of 520 kilometers at full weight.

The system has two main parts: an unmanned aerial vehicle and a ground-based command and control station. During the flight, the demonstrator showed stable performance and completed all test flight requirements, with its relevant systems working well, AVIC said.
