China’s first batch of extraveic spacecraft has exceeded 15 -year -old -bound of three years and continues to work reliably after 19 space walks, the China Astronaut Research and Training Center said.

The milestone was reached after the third extraveicular (EVA) activity performed by the Shenzhou-19 mission crew on Friday. One of the costumes, according to Liu Dongyue, a member of the Research Center, has been used in 17 EVA since its debut in 2021 during the Shenzhou-12 mission.

Second -generation spatial costumes have significant improvements in safety, flexibility and maintenance, surpassing the performance of the previous generation. They were specially designed to support long -term operations outside the space station.

To ensure continuous performance, the Chinese team has developed an integrated “health” monitoring system of costumes and assessing their service life, combining space data with soil analysis.
