China announced on Friday (5) that it will apply an additional 34% rate on all imported products from the United States from April 10. The decision was issued by the Customs Customs Tariff Committee.
The measure comes in response to the imposition of “reciprocal” tariffs by the United States on Chinese exports, an attitude that, according to the Commission, violates the rules of international trade, impairs the legitimate rights of China and represents a typical act of unilateral intimidation.
In a statement, the commission stated that US action not only compromises the country’s own interests, but also threatens global economic development and the stability of industrial and supply chains.
China has asked the United States to immediately remove unilateral tariffs and resolve trade disputes based on equality, mutual respect and reciprocal benefits.
The commission also pointed out that existing customs policies, such as special customs of customs and tax exemptions, will remain in force. However, the new additional rates announced will not be reduced or exempt.
