Demand for skilled professionals in China’s smart manufacturing industry is expected to exceed 31 million by 2035, according to a report released by Renmin University of China. The study, a pioneer in the country, analyzes employment trends and offers guidelines for companies in the selection and training of specialized workers, reported the Diário de Ciência e Tecnologia this Monday.

The report emphasizes the role of team leaders, technicians and quality inspectors as a driving force for the transformation of the manufacturing sector. These professionals, described as essential for modern production, stand out for their mastery of new technologies, capacity for continuous learning and integration of technical knowledge. Furthermore, they have great potential for career growth and are valued for their importance in the sector.

In 2022, the demand for these workers was approximately 25 million, and expectations point to a significant increase in the required qualification level. According to the report, the proportion of positions requiring a bachelor’s degree or higher is expected to rise from 28% in 2022 to 57% by 2035.

Zhao Zhong, director of Renmin University’s School of Labor and Human Resources, said the growth of this group of professionals will be crucial to China’s industrial modernization and socioeconomic advancement. Smart manufacturing, supported by highly qualified technicians, should consolidate the country’s global competitiveness in the coming decades.
