In November, China will launch a month-long campaign to promote consumption. The initiative is part of efforts to stimulate consumer spending, the Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday.
The consumption promotion month will begin in November in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin and Chongqing. It will feature a series of activities to promote consumption in shopping, food, tourism, exhibitions and presentations, among others, according to the ministry.
Relevant departments and localities were asked to refine their plans to implement the promotion month and introduce practical measures to promote the continued recovery of the country’s consumer market.
China introduced a large-scale equipment upgrade and consumer goods replacement program in March this year to expand domestic demand and sustain the economy. China’s retail consumer goods sales rose 3.3 percent annually in the first three quarters of this year, according to official data.
