Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the country is ready to cooperate with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in combating online gambling and cross-border phone scams. The statement was made on Thursday, during a meeting with diplomatic envoys from 10 ASEAN countries in Beijing.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, highlighted that crimes related to online gambling and phone scams along the Thai-Myanmar border harm the interests of Chinese citizens and other countries in the region. . He called on the countries involved to take responsibility for combating these crimes by adopting strict measures to protect people’s safety and property and ensure that criminals are duly punished.
China, according to Wang, is willing to expand bilateral and multilateral security and law enforcement cooperation with ASEAN countries. The aim is to create a safe environment for people-to-people exchanges and promote a stable order of cooperation between regional neighbors.
