The number of charging points for electric vehicles in China reached more than 11 million by the end of September this year, marking a 50% increase over last year, according to the latest government data.

Among charging points, around 3 million are public facilities, while 8 million are private, according to data from the National Energy Administration. Based on a total stock of 28 million new energy vehicles registered in the country currently, there is one charging point for every 2.4 vehicles, the data showed.

In the first nine months of 2024, the country recorded a net increase of 2.8 million charging points, while the amount of charging for vehicles totaled 66 billion kWh, an increase of 12% year-on-year, the data showed.

The government department said the growing network of charging facilities is providing services on more roads across the country. At the same time, charging installations in districts and cities are growing, having reached 417 thousand units by the end of September.
