The Labor Day holiday (May 1st to 5th) brought positive results to the performing arts sector in China, with growth in ticket sales and the total public, according to the country’s performing arts Association.
In all, 33,500 commercial presentations were performed throughout the Chinese territory, except for events in entertainment sites such as bars and nightclubs. The box office totaled 2.16 billion yuans (about $ 1.5 billion), representing an annual increase of 3.6%. The total audience reached 10.32 million people, a slight increase of 0.47%.
Among the highlights are the music festivals with audiences of over 5,000 people, who moved 1.21 billion yuans – a growth of 5.12% over the same period of 2024. The shows in professional theaters have also gained strength, with a different schedule that included musicals, acrobatics, traditional operas and dramatic pieces.
Cultural tourism also played an important role in the performance of the sector. Projects of presentation at medium and large tourist spots raised 685 million yuans, up 9%, with a public of 5.58 million – an annual increase of 6%.
Data reinforce the strength of live entertainment as part of the tourist experience in China and indicate a consistent resumption of the cultural sector after the impacts of the pandemic.
