
The continental part of China registered a 5.3% growth in the total import and export volume of tea in 2024, reaching 428 thousand tons, according to a report released on Thursday (9) by the Chinese Association Industry Committee to promote international agricultural cooperation.
Over last year, mainland china tea exports reached 374,000 tons – high of 1.8% – with green tea representing most of the volume, equivalent to 86.6% of the total. The imports grew more sharply: there were 54 thousand tons, a significant increase of 38% in the annual comparison, with black tea being the main item, responsible for 77.6% of the total imported.
Countries that make up the initiative of the belt and route followed as the main destinations of Chinese exports: by 2024, 322 thousand tons were sent to these regions, an advance of 2% over the previous year.
The data were presented during a tea industry conference held in the province of Guizhou, in the southwest of the country. For industry representatives, the figures reinforce China’s position as a global leader in tea trade and highlight the growth potential of international partnerships in the sector.
