The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) released, on Wednesday, China’s top 10 science and technology achievements in 2024. The list, presented by CAS Vice President Wu Zhaohui , during a press conference in Nanjing, covers significant advances in space exploration, biomedicine, artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies.

Among the highlights is the lunar mission Chang’e-6which collected samples from the far side of the Moon, and the development of the first brain-inspired, primitive language-based complementary visual chip. Other achievements include the ocean drilling vessel Mengxiang (“Dream”), the first built internally, and the supermicroscopecapable of observing large-scale cellular interactions.

The list also includes advances such as the astronomical satellite Einstein Probe (Tianguan)a petabyte-level ultra-high-capacity optical storage device, and the world’s first universal CAR-T therapy aimed at treating rheumatic and autoimmune diseases. Furthermore, graviton modes in condensed matter and the scientific expedition to the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, which drilled the core of the largest mountain glacier in the world, were highlighted.

This is the 31st edition of the annual list, which attracts national and international attention, promoting public understanding of science and technology. During the event in Nanjing, the top 10 global scientific and technological achievements of 2024 were also announced.
