The Chinese government has warned that new United States restrictions on investments in China will harm US economic interests and their international credibility. The statement was made by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, on Monday, in response to the memorandum issued by Washington last Friday, which classified China as a “foreign opponent” and imposed new discriminatory measures .
Lin criticized the American decision, stating that the increase in barriers to Chinese investments in the US impairs the trust of Chinese companies in the US market and distorts the natural flow of investments between the two countries. He asked Washington to respect international rules and stop politicizing economic and commercial relations.
In addition, China expressed strong opposition to the restrictions imposed by the US to the Chinese shipbuilding sector, accusing Washington of violating WTO rules by abusing the section 301 investigation mechanism.
