China industrial groups expressed on Friday (5) strong opposition to the United States decision to revoke tax exemption treatment for low-value packages from China and Hong Kong. From May 2, orders with a value of up to $ 800 will no longer be tax -free, as announced by the US Administration.
China’s National Council of Light Industry has classified the measure as “self -destructive” and warned of its negative impacts on global industrial cooperation, bilateral trade and consumer rights, including the US itself. The group has asked Washington to respect market rules and suspend the policy.
In a separate note, China’s National Textile and Clothing Council stated that the measure violates the non -discrimination of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and compromises the stability of the global supply chain. According to the entity, business costs will increase and losses also fall on US companies and consumers.
The entities also appealed to the international community to resist what they called “commercial intimidation” and protect a fair and balanced international trade system.
