The China Ministry of Commerce condemned on Tuesday the inclusion of Chinese companies and individuals in the 16th European Union Sanctions Package against Russia, warning of negative impacts on the commercial relationship between the parties.
According to a ministry spokesman, the decision contradicts the consensus established between the Chinese and European leaders. Beijing demanded that the EU interrupt the list of Chinese entities and rejected any attempt to transfer responsibilities to China.
China reaffirmed its opposition to unilateral sanctions without supporting international law and highlighted its commitment to a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine. The ministry also stressed that it will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of affected Chinese companies.
