China contributed more than 50% of the world’s installed renewable energy capacity in 2023, Pan Huimin, an official at the National Energy Administration (ANE), announced on Thursday. The country has become an indispensable force in driving the development of clean energy, Pan said at a press conference, held on the eve of the first International Clean Energy Day, created by the United Nations.
Overseas clean energy investment by Chinese companies has spread across major countries and regions, covering wind, photovoltaic and hydropower, which, based on mutual benefits, have helped locals in their low-carbon growth, Pan explained.
China continues to promote technological innovation and actively integrates into the global clean energy industrial chain, she added. China’s wind and photovoltaic energy products have been exported to more than 200 countries and regions, partly helping to significantly reduce electricity generation costs over the past ten years.
