The first phase of a state-of-the-art light rail project built by China in Nigeria’s southwestern Lagos state was inaugurated on Thursday by President Bola Tinubu, beginning a new chapter in addressing traffic challenges and road delays. displacements that have long hindered the country’s economic power.
Carried out by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in 2021, the transformative Lagos Red Line Rail Public Transport (LRMT) project is 26.5 km long and has eight stations.
During the commissioning ceremony in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos, Tinubu described the project as “a dream come true and the achievement of years of hard work and dedication by successive governments.”
The president, who later led a maiden tour on the Red Line, also witnessed the contract signing ceremony for the construction of the second phase of the LRMT Red Line project by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority and CCECC.
