Presidents Xi Jinping, of China, and Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, of Brazil, announced a new stage in the bilateral relationship, elevating it to the status of a strategic partnership with a focus on a sustainable future. The meeting, held during Xi’s visit to Brazil after the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to promoting global justice, multilateralism and common development.

The alliance seeks to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, science and technology, environmental conservation and clean energy. Xi highlighted the integration between the Belt and Road Initiative and Brazilian projects, such as the Growth Acceleration Program, highlighting that the China-Brazil partnership is at its best historical moment. Lula, in turn, emphasized China’s central role as Brazil’s strategic partner and celebrated the advancement of joint initiatives.

In addition to boosting economic areas, the two leaders highlighted the importance of cultural, educational and scientific exchanges to strengthen ties between people. Both countries have also committed to leading global action on issues such as climate change, artificial intelligence and poverty reduction, promoting sustainable solutions to contemporary challenges.

The partnership also has an impact on the international scene, with China and Brazil joining forces to expand the voice of the Global South and defend a multipolar world. With plans to strengthen coordination on platforms such as the UN, BRICS and G20, the two countries seek to build a more inclusive and equitable world order, contributing to global peace and progress.
