
China’s Minister of Ecology and Environment, Huang Runqiu, met Tuesday in Beijing, with André Corrêa do Lago, president of COP30 and Secretary of Climate, Energy and Environment of Itamaraty. The two discussed global climate governance and preparations for COP30, which will be held in Belém in November.
Huang reaffirmed China’s commitment to green development and the goal of reaching the carbon peak by 2030 and neutrality by 2060. He highlighted the importance of multilateralism and the responsibility of developed countries to financially support the climate actions of developing countries.
Corrêa do Lago praised China’s advances in the environmental area and expressed expectation that the country will continue to lead global climate efforts. According to him, Chinese performance will be essential to ensure the success of COP30 and strengthen the multilateral process.
