Chapli Kebab is a kind of spiced patty, originating from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region of Pakistan. It is made from minced meat (usually beef or lamb) mixed with a variety of spices and fresh herbs. Unlike other varieties of kebabs, Chapli Kebab is known for its flattened shape and crunchy texture.

It is usually served hot and can be accompanied by various traditional accompaniments. At the table, it is often presented with naan or roti (flatbreads), and accompanied by yogurt or mint chutney to balance the spicy flavours. It can also be served with fresh onion, tomato and cucumber salads.

To eat Chapli Kebab, you simply pick it up with your hands or use a piece of flatbread to wrap it around, similar to a taco.

It originated in the northwestern region of Pakistan, in the areas surrounding Peshawar. Its name “Chapli” comes from the Pashto word “chaprikh,” meaning “crushed” or “flattened,” referring to its distinctive shape. It has a rich history dating back to the Silk Road era, when Peshawar was a major trading center. Traders and travelers passing through the region brought with them their own culinary traditions, which contributed to the creation and evolution of this unique dish.
