Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 2 tablespoons of wheat flour

  • 500 ml of milk

  • Salt to taste

  • Black pepper to taste

  • Nutmeg to taste (optional)

Preparation mode

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • When the butter is completely melted, add the wheat flour and stir well with a whisk or a wooden spoon. Continue stirring for about 2 to 3 minutes to cook the flour, but without letting it brown. This step creates the “roux”, which is the base of the sauce.
  • Gradually add the milk to the roux, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Continue stirring until the mixture begins to thicken.
  • Add salt, black pepper and nutmeg to taste. Continue cooking and stirring until the sauce reaches the desired consistency. The sauce should be smooth and creamy.
  • If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little more milk to adjust the consistency.
