Apple CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday pledged to increase investment in China during his visit to Beijing, which analysts believe highlights the importance of the Chinese market for the American technology giant.
On his second trip to the Chinese mainland this year, Cook met with Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zhuanglong, discussing topics such as Apple’s development in China, online data security management and cloud services.
Cook said Apple is eager to seize the opportunities presented by China’s opening up and will continue to increase its investments in the country, thereby contributing to the high-quality development of industrial and supply chains.
On Tuesday, Cook met with Yang Jie, president of telecommunications giant China Mobile. The two sides exchanged views on advancing cooperation in 5G applications, music and virtual reality (VR) videos, building on existing cooperative programs in areas such as digital content, according to a statement from China Mobile.
Cook also met with Chinese university students at a “science and technology backyard” in Beijing’s Shunyi district to learn about how they are using Apple devices to help farmers adopt more efficient and sustainable practices.
