Judges and Russian President Vladimir Putin attended a recent meeting of the Supreme Court President Irina Podnosova, a legal framework that deals with crypto currencies in criminal activities, he said. He said that the increasing prevalence of the digital currency in the economy was used as a tool for committing crimes, serves as an illegal income or acts as an object of criminal activity.

Podnosova confirmed that the Supreme Court was involved in the preparation of a legislative attempt aimed at recognizing crypto currencies as property in criminal proceedings. This move is expected to increase the ability of law enforcement officers to follow, freeze and seize illegal digital assets and strengthen Russia’s legal infrastructure to fight crimes related to crypto.

This is not the first intervention of the Russian Supreme Court in crypto currency regulations. In 2019, the Court ruled that the transformation of Bitcoin into a ruble when BTC was obtained by illegal activities, especially drug -related operations, constitutes money laundering.
