Lula defends an alternative to the dollar in the BRICS and promises reciprocity to US sanctions

The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Wednesday that the countries of the BRICS have the right to seek An alternative to the dollar in international tradehighlighting that the dependence on the US currency imposes commercial barriers and limits financial sovereignty of emerging countries.

In an interview with radios of Minas GeraisLula also warned that Brazil will respond with reciprocity If the US increases rates on Brazilian products. “If a country increases rates, we will do the same. The WTO allows adjustments of up to 35% and we will use this if necessary ”he declared.

The president defended the Harmony in diplomatic relations and criticized what he called the US isolation. “How can we live without China, India, Russia and other emerging markets?”questioned Lula, reiterating the importance of strengthening global dialogue.
