The number of trips made by foreigners to China under visa-free policies reached more than 20 million in 2024, double that recorded in the previous year, according to the National Immigration Administration (NIA). In total, there were 64.9 million cross-border trips by foreigners, an increase of 83% compared to 2023. In total, China recorded 610 million entries and exits in the year, an increase of 44%.

Immigration services also issued 2.6 million visas, an increase of 52%, and facilitated document renewal for 72,000 foreigners in the country. For Chinese citizens, almost 23.3 million passports were issued, while 94.5 million authorizations were granted for travel to the regions of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, representing increases of 26.5% and 10%, respectively.

In addition to the increase in the flow of travelers, authorities intensified the fight against border crimes, dealing with more than 35 thousand cases and seizing 7.8 tons of drugs in almost 500 operations. The growth in numbers reflects both the country’s openness to the world and its commitment to security and efficient border management.
