In 2024, the total number of visits to science and technology museums in China surpassed the 100 million mark for the first time, according to the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM). In total, institutions in the 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps received 104 million visitors, an increase of 16% compared to 2023.

In addition to in-person visits, mobile scientific popularization initiatives achieved notable results in the same period. Mobile science and technology museums visited 746 locations, while scientific dissemination caravans covered 2.7 million kilometers. These projects took educational content to more distant communities, promoting scientific knowledge in an accessible way.

Another highlight was the success of the mobile science classes, organized by the Ministry of Education, CSTM and the Douyin platform. Online broadcasts accumulated more than 350 million visits, expanding the impact of scientific education in the digital environment.

These numbers reinforce China’s role as a leader in scientific popularization initiatives, integrating technology and innovation to bring science closer to the population.
