The city of Pouso Alegre, in Minas Gerais, received a significant investment in the industrial sector with the inauguration of a new manufacturing unit by Midea, one of the largest Chinese manufacturers of household appliances and air conditioning equipment.
The inauguration event was attended by Midea executives, authorities and guests. Zhu Qingqiao, Chinese ambassador to Brazil, highlighted that Minas Gerais is a state with a large population and industrialization potential, and stated that Midea’s presence will directly benefit the local population.
In a video message, vice-president Geraldo Alckmin described the venture as the biggest investment in the Brazilian home appliance industry in the last 10 years, citing the growth of the consumer market and the improvement in Brazilians’ standard of living. The mayor of Pouso Alegre, Coronel Dimas, highlighted the relevance of the project for the local economy, with the creation of jobs and the expectation of attracting new Chinese companies to the region.
The new unit received an investment of R$630 million and has the capacity to create more than 650 direct jobs. During the event, participants took a tour of the facilities, seeing the production lines for refrigerators and washing machines, which use state-of-the-art technology.
The event ended with a cultural presentation, which included traditional Chinese dances and martial arts demonstrations, reinforcing the cultural ties between Brazil and China.
