In a recent interview with Kirsten Welker on NBC, President-elect Donald Trump confirmed that he does not plan to replace Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell when he takes office in January.
When asked if he would ask for Powell’s resignation, Trump replied: “No, I don’t think so. I think he would have resigned if I had told him. But if I asked him to resign, he might not.”
These comments point to a shift in speculation about possible conflicts with the Federal Reserve over monetary policy during Trump’s election campaign. Powell’s tenure was marked by debates over inflation and interest rate adjustments, which Trump had previously criticized.
Trump reiterated his campaign promise to impose tariffs on imports from the United States’ largest trading partners, a cornerstone of his economic policy aimed at protecting American manufacturing. However, he also acknowledged uncertainties about potential consequences for consumers.
Asked if he could guarantee that American families would not face higher prices due to tariffs, Trump said: “I can’t guarantee anything. “I can’t guarantee tomorrow.” he said.
