Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday that China is ready to work with all parties to build a fair world of common development and outlined China’s eight actions for global development.

Xi made the remarks at the First Session of the 19th G20 Summit on Combating Hunger and Poverty.

In his speech titled “Building a Just World of Common Development,” Xi stressed that transformation on a scale never seen in a century is accelerating across the world today, and humanity faces unprecedented opportunities and challenges.

As leaders of major countries, G20 leaders must not allow their vision to be blocked by clouds. Instead, they should see the world as a community with a shared future and shoulder their responsibility for history, take historical initiative and move history forward, Xi said.

Xi noted that at the Hangzhou Summit, China put development at the center of G20 macroeconomic policy coordination for the first time, and this year’s Rio Summit chose the theme of “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet” and decided to establish a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.

From Hangzhou to Rio, G20 leaders have been working towards the same goal, that is, building a fair world of common development, he added.

To build such a world, Xi said, it is important to channel more resources into areas such as trade, investment and development cooperation, as well as strengthening development institutions, and there must be more bridges of cooperation and less “small backyard, high walls”. , so that more and more developing countries have better conditions and achieve modernization.

He said it is important to support developing countries to adopt sustainable production and lifestyle, and provide appropriate responses to challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental pollution, highlighting ecological conservation and achieving harmony between man and nature. .

It is important to create an open, inclusive and non-discriminatory environment for international economic cooperation, promote universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, energize sustainable development with new technologies, new industries and new forms of business, and support developing countries to better integrate with digital, smart and green development and narrow the gap between the South and the North, he said.

It is also important to persist in multilateralism and uphold the United Nations-centered international system, the international order based on international law and the basic norms of international relations that are based on the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, Xi added.

Xi stressed that China’s development is an important part of the world’s common development.

China has lifted 800 million people out of poverty and met the poverty reduction target of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in advance, he said, adding that these achievements are the fruit of the joint and arduous efforts of the Chinese government and people.

Noting that China always puts people front and center, and solemnly declares that “no poor region or individual should be left behind”, Xi said China combats poverty through targeted policies, facilitating growth, fostering sectors with distinct characteristics in various locations and promoting common prosperity.

China’s history proves that developing countries can eliminate poverty, that a weaker bird can start early and soar, once it has the endurance, perseverance and fighting spirit that allow soft water to pierce hard rock and transform plans in reality, he said.

China succeeds, other developing countries succeed, this is what China’s fight against poverty means to the world, he added.

Xi emphasized that China will always be a member of the Global South, a reliable long-term partner of other developing countries, as well as an active and entrepreneurial practitioner working for the cause of global development. China will move hand in hand with other developing countries towards modernization, he said.

Xi laid out eight actions by China to support global development.

First, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. China continues to build the Belt and Road multidimensional connectivity network, which is oriented towards building a green Silk Road and empowering the digital Silk Road.

Second, implement the Global Development Initiative. China will ensure that the Global South research center under construction will function as planned, continue to support developing countries and deepen practical cooperation in areas such as poverty alleviation, food security and the digital economy.

Third, support development in Africa. At the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit in Beijing, China revealed ten partnership actions to promote modernization hand in hand with Africa over the next three years and committed to providing financial support in this regard.

Fourth, support international cooperation in poverty reduction and food security. China has decided to join the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty. China will support the G20 in further convening the Development Ministerial Meeting and will remain committed to hosting the International Conference on Food Loss and Waste.

Fifth, China, together with Brazil, South Africa and the African Union, is proposing an International Open Science Cooperation Initiative to help the Global South better access global advances in science, technology and innovation.

Sixth, support the G20 to carry out practical cooperation for the benefit of the Global South. China supports the work of the Beijing-based Center for Entrepreneurship Research in G20 Economies, and supports cooperation in digital education and the digitization of ancient museums and archives.

Seventh, the implementation of the G20 Anti-Corruption Action Plan. China is strengthening cooperation with other developing countries on fugitive repatriation and asset recovery, safe haven denial and anti-corruption capacity building.

Eighth, China is enhancing high-standard opening-up and unilaterally opening its doors to least developed countries (LDCs). China announced the decision to grant all LDCs that have diplomatic relations with China zero customs duty treatment for 100 percent of products from these countries.

To conclude, Xi stated that a journey of a thousand kilometers begins with the first step. China is ready to take steps together with all parties to build a fair world of common development, leave poverty in the past and turn the vision into reality.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva chaired the meeting.

Before the start of the summit, Xi, along with other participating leaders, participated in the launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, initiated by Brazil.
