The AIIB launches an innovative tool for the mobilization of resources on favorable conditions

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has unveiled its latest digital solution, AIIB+, a first-of-its-kind interface designed to better match external technical and concessional resources to the AIIB’s project portfolio.

“AIIB+ is not just another digital platform,” said Danny Alexander, Vice President of Policy and Strategy at AIIB. “It is a vision that aims to revolutionize the way in which Multilateral Development Banks mobilize concessional resources.”

To address the urgent infrastructure needs facing developing countries in Asia and other continents, the AIIB+ seeks to align its project portfolio with the most appropriate technical and financial resources provided by external partners. This strategy allows the AIIB to identify and take advantage of the best possible conditions, maximizing efficiency in allocating resources to priority projects.

Additionally, the AIIB+ focuses on mobilizing grants and concessional financing quickly and at scale. This is achieved by minimizing transaction costs and ensuring significant multiplier impact for donors, facilitating an efficient and timely response to infrastructure needs.

Finally, the AIIB+ seeks to increase its impact for client countries by expanding the range of financial and technical sources and partners. By connecting them with innovative digital solutions, the AIIB+ improves collaboration opportunities and ensures more effective implementation of infrastructure projects, aligning with the sustainable development needs of its partners.

“As the first MDB digital matchmaker, AIIB+ is set to transform the infrastructure financing landscape,” said Sir Danny.

“It’s not just about financing, it’s about creating partnerships to close gaps, build futures and offer financing on favorable terms to AIIB members.”

Several institutions, public and private, have already subscribed to the digital portal and have joined the launch, including the Economic Affairs Office of the Swiss Secretariat of State (SECO), the Chinese International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA ), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW).
