What happens when old-school musical roots meet the limitless opportunities of the Internet? Joaquin Serrano, known in the music scene as Serro, is a prime example. The Filipino singer-songwriter and producer had a musical childhood and became a self-taught artist thanks to YouTube. Today, as the “Saturn Boy of Manila,” Serro offers not only meticulously produced tracks, but a whole new musical experience for his listeners.
From the beginning to “Summer Flame”
Joaquin Serrano, better known as Serro, is a Filipino singer-songwriter and producer who explores life through music. His stage name is simply a shortened version of his last name Serrano. Although he is not a big fan of astrology, he identifies with the planet Saturn for its connection to discipline and limitations, which he adopted as “Saturn Boy” in his Instagram posts, becoming a nickname that his friends and followers quickly adopted.
From a young age, Joaquín was exposed to music through his family: his grandmother was a singing and piano teacher, his father used to play funk and jazz music, and his mother introduced him to electronic dance music. Although he never imagined pursuing music professionally, he began producing as a DJ in high school, influenced by artists such as Martin Garrix and Avicii, learning through YouTube and collaborations with other musicians.
A unique musical style
Serro’s music blends R&B with a variety of styles, creating a nostalgic sound that invites listeners to connect and share experiences. His latest album, “Summer Flame,” is an amalgam of stories about obsession and fleeting emotions, with the title track standing out as the one that inspired the entire concept.

Collaborations and anecdotes
Working with various artists has been an enriching experience for Serro. Each collaboration on “Summer Flame” was tailored to the style of the featured artists without losing Serro’s essence. For example, “Lihim” with Earl of Manila, “Better Off” with JUNA, “Heartbeat” with Vydd, and “Attached” with Kyleaux & Never Paco, each of these collaborations brought a unique element to the album.
The pleasure of being a musician
For Serro, the most rewarding thing about being a musician is the opportunity to share his feelings through his songs, which he considers personal diaries made for sharing. This vulnerability and connection with listeners is what keeps each song and project meaningful.

Looking at the future
Serro sees himself making music beyond the next five years. Despite the industry’s hardships, his love for music and the motto “Malayo Pa, Pero Malayo Na” drives him to continue creating. Among his future dreams are collaborations with artists such as No Rome and Chase Atlantic, who inspire him deeply.
Next projects
Recently, Serro released his album “Summer Flame,” featuring 10 tracks that include collaborations with artists such as Earl of Manila, Vydd, Kyleaux & Never Paco, Juna and Denz. Additionally, he has released a music video for the song “Summer Flame” and has several more collaborations on the way this year.
