According to blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain, India WazirX The hacker responsible for the $230 million breach of the exchange left a significant portion of the stolen assets Ethereum’a transformed.
Hacker Behind $230 Million WazirX Attack Converted Most of the Scammed Assets to Ethereum
Lookonchain reported via X that the hacker exchanged the stolen funds for 43,800 ETH worth around $149.46 million and currently holds around 59,097 ETH.
The wallet still contains around $15 million worth of crypto assets, including Dent, Chromia, Celer Network, and Frontier tokens.
“It is worth noting that the WazirX attacker deposited 7.7 million Dent ($7.3k) to a previously unused Binance deposit address,” Lookonchain added.
The WazirX attack, which occurred on Thursday, targeted the exchange’s multisig wallet on the Ethereum network.
The attack resulted in the theft of over 200 different crypto assets, including Shiba Inu, Ethereum, Polygon, and PePe memecoin.
In response, WazirX stopped all withdrawals and acknowledged the security breach, describing the incident as an “emergency” beyond its control.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, blockchain analytics firm Elliptic has published a report stating that on-chain data suggests that the attack was carried out by hackers with ties to North Korea.
