China’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 5 percent year on year in the first half of 2024, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Monday.
The value reached about 61.7 trillion yuan ($8.6 trillion) in the first half of the year, NBS data showed. In the second quarter, the country’s GDP grew 4.7 percent year on year, according to the ministry.
“Overall, the national economy continued to improve steadily in the first half of the year,” a spokesperson for the NBS said when commenting on the economic performance, citing the support of policy incentives, recovery of external demand and development of new quality productive forces.
