On June 6, 2024, the Hon. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, attended the inauguration of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Clean Economy Investors Forum in Singapore, a major collaboration platform under the IPEF to promote investments in sustainable infrastructures and climate technology projects. Other ministers and high-level representatives from 13 IPEF partners also attended, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and the United States, as well as more than 300 senior executives from the public and private sectors, including prominent investors and investment funds from the United States and other IPEF partners.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in a roundtable on “Catalysing and scaling up climate technology: Bridging the gap between innovators and investors”, together with the Hon. Mr. Todd McClay, Trade Minister of New Zealand, Mr. Mark Wiedman, CEO of BlackRock, and Ms. Verena Lim, Asia Managing Director of MacQuarie Group.
The Foreign Minister highlighted Thailand’s vision and policy measures in deploying investments and developing climate technologies with an appropriate integrated strategy that combines both demand-side and supply-side measures to respond to economic development and rapid technological advances. To this end, the Foreign Minister shared Thailand’s experience in advancing the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and underlined the importance of strengthening public-private partnerships for the advancement of climate technology industries.
Heading towards a sustainable future: agriculture and renewable energies
On this occasion, the Forum provided the opportunity to establish business and capital contacts on sustainable infrastructure projects and climate technology among potential investors and promoters of IPEF projects, both from the public and private sectors, including early-stage entrepreneurs. A total of 69 sustainable infrastructure projects ready for investment and in the pipeline amounted to $23 billion. 20 investment-ready projects worth about $6 billion were presented to potential investors.

In the infrastructure field, Thai project promoters from the Department of Highways and PTT Public Company Limited were invited to submit projects on the extension of the Uttaraphimuk Elevated Toll Highway from Rangsit to Bang Pa-in and the gas separation in Rayong province to optimize carbon capture and utilization (CCU), respectively.

The inaugural IPEF Clean Economy Investor Forum was part of the cooperation activities launched to achieve tangible results and advance the objectives of IPEF Pillar III on Clean Economy with a view to mobilizing finance in support of sustainable infrastructure and climate technology projects in the Indo-Pacific region. Thailand’s participation in this Investor Forum was an opportunity to highlight its vision of the green transition and its potential for green investment opportunities, mobilize financing options and network with major institutional investors in the United States and other IPEF partners.
