Brazilian businessman Valdicimar de Assis Mattusoch took out his cellphone, showing videos of Chinese agricultural drones flying and working over Brazilian fields during a meeting with partners and journalists at the headquarters of world-renowned drone giant DJI in Shenzhen, southern China.
During the official visit of Brazilian vice-president Geraldo Alckmin to China, Valdicimar visited the country as a representative of the delegation of Brazilian businesspeople. As an agricultural machinery enthusiast, he first came into contact with DJI corporate drones in 2016 and was attracted by their efficiency and environmentally friendly features.
The businessman decided to bring products from China to Brazil to empower local agriculture. Initially, faced with doubts from local farmers and the challenges of accepting the technology, he and his team traveled with large drones from farm to farm, covering around 20 states, continually demonstrating and explaining the advantages of the new technology.
The operation of drones is more efficient at a lower cost. The equipment does not have the disadvantages of land-based machines, such as pressing seedlings.
DJI data shows that, by the end of 2023, the company’s multiple agents in Brazil have established a total of 286 points of sale and 5 training centers. In 2023, the sales volume was 5.6 thousand units, and the number of drone operations was 3 million hectares, almost tripling the 1.1 million hectares in 2022.
China is the main destination for exports of agricultural products from Brazil, which is one of the largest agricultural producers in the world. Valdicimar hopes that more Brazilian agricultural workers will use Chinese technology and, at the same time, that Chinese agricultural companies will see the enormous potential of the Latin American market.
